Thousands of medical files from out of state turn up in Florence, filled with patient’s personal information.

The man who found the records didn’t want to go on camera, but he did want answers.

WHNT News 19 took the files straight to the Florence Police Department and then tried to track down the doctor.

The records show the doctor’s office where the files came from is in Virginia.

WHNT News 19 called the hospital, and left a message for the administrator, but as of Friday evening, no answer.

“It’s hard to say who’s at fault because it’s hard to say if the doctor dumped it or if he gave it to a company that was supposed to shred it but has not,” said Detective Jerry Pearson with the Florence Police Department.  “It’s hard to say where it came from, so it’s hard to blame a certain person.”
