Man shot to death in Birmingham overnight

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – According to our news partners at , an investigation is underway after a man was shot to death overnight.

Birmingham police officers responded to a shooting around midnight at 2000 block of Avenue P.

The victim is a black male believed to be in his mid-20s.

Investigators are not releasing the victim’s name pending notification of his family.

Sgt. Bryan Shelton says, no suspects are in custody.

The slaying in Birmingham’s 83rd homicide victim this year. Of those, at least six have been ruled justifiable and therefore aren’t deemed criminal by the police department. Two others were officer-involved shootings from outside law enforcement agencies.

In all of Jefferson County, there have been 121 homicides in 2016, including the 83 from Birmingham.

More information is expected to be released later today.
