(CNN) - Here's an engagement ring that may leave your mouth gaping. Forget the diamonds... a groom-to-be in California decided to put some teeth into his marriage proposal.
Usually engagement rings are slipped on a finger or come out of an opened box. But how about an open mouth?
"Oh yeah we definitely right off the bat have been excited telling people it's his wisdom tooth," said Carlee Leifkes, the bride to be.
In the movies, couples go to Tiffany's. But this 'stone' was extracted from Lucas Unger's mouth when he was 17. Now at 23, he's given it to Carlee Leifkes as an engagement ring.
"We're into oddities," said Leifkes. "The more different the better."
This wasn't a surprise to her. The couple discussed the idea ahead of time and took Lucas' wisdom tooth to a jeweler who had never mounted a tooth in a ring before but was happy to do it.
Carlee loves the concept. "He actually grew this in his body," she said to CNN's Jeanne Moos.
The tooth has been professionally cleaned and coated. Lucas proposed on Halloween.
Later this month the couple will get married in Las Vegas by an Elvis impersonator.
