ATHENS, Ala. (AP) _ The Limestone County Sheriff’s office say a 63-year-old Athens man who was charged with first-degree sex abuse died in jail the same day he was arrested.
The News Courier reports (http://bit.ly/2dOrGYD) the man was being booked into jail Thursday when he appeared ill and requested a nitroglycerin tablet from his personal belongings.
Deputy Stephen Young, public information officer for the sheriff’s office, says moments after the nurses gave him the tablet he collapsed in full cardiac arrest. Young said the man was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
The man’s identity was not released pending notification from family.
Young says the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation is handling the investigation since the victim was in the custody of the sheriff’s office. The body was taken to Huntsville for an autopsy.
