MADISON COUNTY, Ala. – Madison County authorities have charged a man with murder for the county’s first homicide of 2019.
Larry Lee Jones, 62, was booked into the Madison County Jail just before 3 a.m. Sunday on a murder charge. According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Jones was at his home on Yarborough Road Saturday night when he shot and killed Eric Arredondo, 28. Arredondo was on the front porch when deputies and paramedics arrived and died at the scene.
The first homicide of 20-19 for the Madison County Sheriff’s Office…It’s not something investigators want to see but they say it’s inevitable.
“There’s going to be these types of crimes and whenever they happen we have really good investigators that go to work and they solve it really soon,” Lieutenant Donny Shaw said.
Shaw says investigators found the victim, 28-year-old Eric Arrendondo at a home on the 1500 block of Yarborough Road.
He says the victim died at the scene. Authorities are still investigating why he was there and his relationship with the man they believe shot him, 62-year-old Larry Jones. Jones lives at the home where the shooting occurred. This is not Jones’ first run-in with police. According to state records, he has been arrested several times from 2001 to 2012. He has pleaded guilty to several charges including giving a false name to officers, assault first degree, theft of property second degree and use/possession of drug paraphernalia.
Even though Jones was charged with murder, he is not sitting in the Madison County Jail. His bond was set at $30,000 and he was able to bond out.
“He has been arrested before, but he has never been arrested for a violent crime such as this. I would not want to tell the community that he’s out there, and he’s moving around and he is a threat to the community. Whatever occurred, whatever transpired in this, this happened at his own residence,” Shaw said.
Shaw could not say what happened leading up to the shooting. He says Jones was detained for questioning and was arrested by investigators during that process.
