HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT)-- Madison Square Mall sold last April for $5 million to Huntsville boutique real estate group, RCP Companies. The company says The Grove is coming to the site soon.
While Madison Square Mall remains open, questions remain about what will happen there. RCP has not revealed much else about what is planned for the site, and representatives say discussions are still in the works about that. In the meantime, some tenants are headed out the door at the old mall.
Bayer Properties, which manages and leases for Bridge Street Town Centre, announced The Pretzel Twister is on its way into a space there. It will be located between Maggie Moo's and The Chocolate Crocodile.
Other Madison Square Mall tenants are questioning whether to leave, too.
Matthew Wyatt, who owns Classic Game Vault, is expanding his shop into the Decatur Mall.
"We still don't really know what's going on," he said, "so I need a backup plan."
He's afraid "redevelopment" may mean the mall is closing, so he's going to retain both locations for now.
"At least now I know, if the other location does close, I'll have this one to fall back on," he explained. "I need a place for me to go so I can keep making money and keep supporting my kids, and I need a place for my employees to go because I care about them too."
His Decatur location, which he describes as a video game lounge, opens on Friday at 10 a.m. He is planning a tournament for Saturday. In the meantime, he and other tenants wait for answers about Madison Square Mall.
