Madison County Schools enacts mask mandate through Sept. 3

MADISON COUNTY, Ala. — Madison County Schools will require anyone inside a school building to wear a mask through Sept. 3, the district said Thursday morning.

Because of an increase in the number of cases, the change goes into effect for students, staff and visitors inside all buildings Friday, Aug. 13, according to a statement from the district.

A Madison County Schools spokesman said cases amounted to less than 1 percent of the 20,000 students in the district but would not give a specific number of students Thursday, saying the number varies day to day.

According to the district’s statement, officials will reevaluate the level of COVID-19 spread during the masking period and determine what to do next.
