HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Church members of Building Church moved to Huntsville in 2007 from Louisiana to plant a church. "Our home church out of Baton Rouge, along with family and friends helped support us to launch out," said Outreach Coordinator, Zachary Simpson.
Today, many of those same family and friends that helped them are now in need of help themselves, with their homes underwater; including the pastor's own daughter. She and her husband and two kids had to go to the second story in their home, where they were later rescued from. "They lost contact with them, but they got word later today that they're ok!"
Thousands of people have been rescued in Baton Rouge, and they're being brought to shelters.
Simpson says one shelter he knows of has nearly 2,000 people in it. They need supplies. So Building Church is going back to Louisiana to help. "There's several [people] we will be bringing to safe places, as well as giving them stuff to help them begin their recovery efforts," said Simpson.
If you'd like to help in their relief efforts there are a few ways you can do so:
You can donate items to the church. You may drop them off at 845 Slaughter Road until this Wednesday.
If you'd rather donate money, you can do that too!
