LINCOLN COUNTY, Tenn. – Authorities in Lincoln County, Tennessee, deemed a local church a total loss after a fire Sunday evening.

Fire crews worked to put out the flames at Lincoln United Methodist Church. Lincoln County Fire and Rescue assistant chief Crethton Caldwell said he believes the fire started in the attic of the church. Caldwell said when they arrived on the scene crews went inside the church to battle the flames, but the roof started to collapse so he pulled his men out.

Local resident Greg Dodson said his heart breaks for church members from Lincoln United Methodist. He encourages members to attend service at his place of worship at Highland United Methodist.
“We want them to feel at home and come join us in service. Anything we can do to assist and help them out we are there for them,” said Dodson.

Officials were thankful there were no injuries following the incident. An investigator is expected to return to the scene Monday to determine what caused the fire.
