Lightning strike probable cause of apartment fire in Tuscumbia

News

TUSCUMBIA, Ala. – First responders were called to Greystone Village Apartments on Old Hwy 20 in Tuscumbia for a possible structure fire.

Authorities believe a lightning strike may have caused the issue. Spring Valley Volunteer Assistant Fire Chief Justin Gasque said crews found smoke in the attic and noticed a burning smell but there was no sign of flames.

“Get your fire department out there and let them check everything because you could have a fire in the attic or it could be another part of the structure on fire. It’s a duplex unit. We had to get inside the other unit to search it and make sure there’s no smoke inside that unit also.”

No one was injured or displaced.
