After three days of searching, the hunt is over for accused Auburn shooter Desmonte Leonard. He turned himself in to U.S. Marshals in Montgomery on Tuesday night.
Leonard is in the Montgomery County Jail right now, and could be transferred to Auburn as soon as this afternoon.
He will be arraigned in Lee County on Thursday.
Leonard surrendered to authorities at the U.S Federal building in Montgomery.
Tuesday night, Auburn Police Chief Tommy Dawson spoke about the turn of events.
"We were going to pursue until till we caught him, whether he turned himself in or not," said Dawson. "If not tonight, if not next week, if it took a year from now -- we were going to do it."
Dawson also spoke directly to the community, and to the families of the six victims.
"I'm sorry for what happened. You continue to be in our prayers and our thoughts daily, and you will always be in our prayers from this point on," Dawson said.
