(WHNT) - Decatur Mayor Don Kyle was our guest for the August 17 edition of Leadership Perspectives.

These air every Saturday on WHNT News 19 at 5:00 p.m. and we also post extended interviews on

Kyle served as Decatur's from 2004-2008, lost to Don Stanford that year, and then ran again in 2012 and won.  He says his perspective changed the second time around.

Kyle became a grandfather, for one.  He says he viewed many things differently.

"My desire to contribute, and my belief that I had something still to contribute never wavered," said Kyle.

Kyle said it wasn't easy for him to tie his past accomplishments into his campaign, but he determined it was essential to do that if he wanted to win.  Kyle said the main accomplishment he wanted people to know about was his role in creating the Target shopping center.

"We believed if we got that anchor store, that destination store, that we would bring others," said Kyle.  More stores and restaurants followed.

In this segment, Kyle also talks about projects to restore Ingalls Harbor on the Tennessee River, and the importance of luring fishing tournaments to the River City.
