LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ala. – A jury is split over a man accused of killing his wife years ago.
At 11:30 a.m. Monday, Judge Mark Craig declared a mistrial in the murder trial of Jimmy Dotson, 63, according to officials with the Lawrence County District Attorney’s Office.
“[The] jury reported that further deliberation would be of no avail, they were deadlocked,” said John Mays, Dotson’s attorney.
Dotson is charged with the death of his wife, Carolyn Kirby Dotson. Officials say she was shot to death in October 2010 at their home on County Road 327 in East Lawrence County.
Officials with the DA’s office tell WHNT her death was initially ruled a suicide. A year later, new information caused the case to be reopened and Dotson was arrested in December 2011. Records show he was indicted in November 2013.
Records indicate the murder trial began August 15. Mays tells WHNT News 19 a retrial is set for November 28, 2016.
