Lincoln County Jail Fire Ruled Arson

LINCOLN COUNTY, Tenn. (WHNT) –  Lincoln County’s Sheriff’s Office has ruled a fire at the jail as arson.

Sheriff Blackwelder tells WHNT News 19 one of his agency’s deputies was hurt in that fire.

The fire happened inside the Lincoln County Jail. The deputy injured, Sgt. Will Fountain, was taken to the hospital for observation after suffering from smoke inhalation.

Fountain has been released and was back on duty Monday.

No inmates were hurt but there was a complete evacuation of the building.

The jail is temporarily closed for 3 hours while smoke was removed.

According to Fayetteville Fire Department Chief Danny Travis, the fire at the jail started when an inmate set his mattress on fire.
