MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) -Crews are back on the scene of the wreck Sunday morning. Morgan County Sheriff’s Deputies closed one lane of Interstate 65 to clear more debris left behind from a tractor trailer wreck from Thursday Night.

Some of the truck remains at the bottom of the ravine adjacent to the roadway, however in consideration of the volume of weekend traffic and the dangers of working in the dark, the decision was made to halt work at the site until Saturday morning.

Sheriff Ana Franklin strongly suggested motorists traveling south on I-65 should exit at the Falkville exit, at the 322 mile marker, and take Highway 31 south. You can get back on the interstate at the 318 mile marker, which is the Lacon exit.

Authorities say a truck driver tried to take his life by first shooting himself with a pellet gun and then intentionally driving off the rodway and down a ravine. The truck wrecked around 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

No other vehicles were involved in the wreck, and the driver survived, suffering only minor injuries.

Workers have been on the scene all day Friday cleaning up the trash.  Southbound lanes were completely closed for three hours after the wreck with one lane closed since that time.
