HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - Huntsville Police say a woman was attacked and robbed in the parking lot of the Bridge Street Town Centre this weekend.

We're told it happened Sunday afternoon just after 1 p.m. when a woman was punched in the face, slammed to the ground, and had her purse stolen by someone.

Lt. Stacy Bates says it doesn't happen often, "We'll occasionally get a car broken into... but it's rare that we have any major crime over there."

When we called Bridge Street Town Centre Tuesday afternoon, we were told the complex doesn't have surveillance cameras, but does have security patrolling the complex constantly. As for prevention, Lt. Bates says it's always a good idea to stay vigilant. "Anytime you're in a parking lot, just make sure you're aware of your surroundings," says Bates. "Make sure you know what's going on around you at all times. It can't prevent everything but it will help you be on your guard a little bit more."

Below is the full statement from Bridge Street Town Centre on the robbery.

"At Bridge Street Town Centre, we are committed to the safety and well-being of our shoppers and center employees.
