MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) – A woman is behind bars in the Madison County Metro Jail, charged with the murder of her infant daughter.

Desiree Dawn Childers, 27, was arrested Tuesday. She has had a bond set at $500,000, according to the Madison County Jail website.
Madison Police say they responded to a home on Oak Brook Circle on Friday. The initial call was that an infant had possibly drowned in a bathtub.
Paramedics tried to revive the child. They rushed her to Huntsville Hospital, where doctors pronounced 7-month-old Blakely Fairburn dead.
Police began an investigation and charged Childers with murder on Tuesday, September 3.
Madison Police say they cannot release more specific details right now.
“We understand people have questions,” says Madison Police Department Captain John Stringer.
“Unfortunately when you’re still involved in an ongoing investigation and possible criminal prosecution, there’s only so much information that you can release at the time so yuo can preserve the integrity of the investigation and ultimately the prosecution.”
Police add that more charges could follow against Childers.
