One man, Carai Cortez, is charged with three counts of murder. Police say they discovered he was under the influence of alcohol when he drove the wrong way on I-565 and struck the SUV carrying Benjamin Johnson, 21, Alexa Hannig, 22, and her son, Hayden Martella, 3.
Family members told us Ben and Alexa were on the road taking Hayden to the emergency room because he was sick.
There will be a candle-light vigil on Sunday night at 8:30 p.m. at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, just outside the main building by the Saturn V. The public is welcome and encouraged to come. Family members told us the Space & Rocket Center was the preferred site because it’s near to where the wreck happened. If you attend, you’re asked to bring your own candles.
Ben’s relatives tell us his funeral is set for Monday. There will be an open viewing from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Berryhill Funeral Home, followed by a private service.
