HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – A tanker truck caught on fire Friday near the intersection of Capshaw Road and Jeff Road in Huntsville.

The truck carries liquid asphalt, but was empty.  It caught fire just next to the entrance of Domino’s Pizza about 12:30 p.m.  No one was hurt.

The driver said something caught fire with the heating element on the back of the truck.  He got out of the cab and tried to put it out with his two fire extinguishers, but was unsuccessful. The driver then called for help.

The Monrovia Volunteer Fire Department was first on the scene to respond, and Huntsville HAZMAT also came to assist.

Monrovia VFD evacuated Domino’s Pizza just to make sure all employees were a safe distance away.
