HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – There’s an action-packed, educational summer camp open for children and teenagers living with diabetes.  It begins Monday, July 7th and goes through July 10th.

It’s the Sugar Falls Day Camp at Camp Seale Harris.

The camp will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the UAH Fitness Center, 500 John Wright Dr. NW Huntsville, AL 35805.

Campers will hear from healthcare volunteers including local physicians, nurses, dietitians, and counselors who provide diabetes education, medical oversight, and fun activities.

The instructors teach children how to control their diabetes through careful monitoring, diet, exercise and medication management.

Campers get to participate in games and sports, such as archery, basketball, swimming, group games, and arts and crafts.

Kids enjoy the camaraderie, motivation and support from new friends living with diabetes.

And this year campers will enjoy a special guest appearance by the Huntsville Stars baseball team and a special visit from Therapy Partners, Inc., an organization that serves the community through professionally trained therapy animals.

Sugar Falls Day Camp is sponsored by Southeastern Diabetes Education Services (SDES), a nonprofit organization supporting the thousands of children and their families living with diabetes.  It’s all made possible by donations from local sponsors, including MTSI, Dynetics, Huntsville Hospital Foundation, and Wal-Mart Foundation, as well as local businesses Taziki’s and Newks.

Community partners include the Lions Clubs of New Hope.

Registration closes Friday, July 4th at 5:00 p.m.   Scholarships are available.  Call  205-402-0415 to get registered.  Or you can do so by clicking HERE.
