HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - You can't miss their logo, or their message. The team at Full Draw Archery was initially worried about the opening of the Cabela's sports store opening.
"[But since Cabela's] opened, we've been busy open to close," said owner Ronnie Kimbrough.
The business owners put a series of billboards in the air above the new store that read, in big red letters 'Thank You for Buying Local!'
"We put it up maybe 4 months ago, while they were still under construction," said Kimbrough.
The response, he says, has been huge, from community members, and advertisers, but above all, from small business owners who feel the same way they do about big box stores.
"Coming into big cities they get tax breaks, they get land," explained Kimbrough. "When you're a small business, you don't get that stuff. You have to start at the ground and build up."
Kimbrough says he and his team live the life they tout in the store. Experience and expertise, along with a hands-on experience for customers, is what makes them a viable option; plus, he says, their prices are the same, if not lower.
He also says the billboards are for mom and pop shops everywhere.
"We did it because we knew it's a high traffic area. We knew they were going to come there, and we wanted them to know that we're here and we're not going to give up."
