Officials from the Space and Rocket Center are left shaking their heads after becoming the target of a shooter Thursday. Just before 10:00 a.m., three shots were fired into the Davidson Center which is the hall that the Saturn V Rocket is housed in.

No one was injured.

Two of the bullets hit the Saturn V Rocket housed.  Both bullets hit the third stage of the rocket.

The Saturn V inside the museum is an actual Saturn V that was never used during the Apollo program.

Huntsville Police quickly responded to make sure the area was secure.  More than 1,000 people were on the grounds of the U.S. Space and Rocket Center at the time of the shooting, including many school children on field trips.

According to investigators, the shot came from a moving vehicle driving on I-565.

Dr. Harry Hobbs, spokesperson for the Huntsville Police Department, said initial preliminary information indicates the shots hit 30 to 100 feet apart.

Hobbs said the rounds were likely fired from a rifle, judging from the velocity needed to penetrate the glass.

NASA investigators are helping Huntsville Police with the case.

Managers at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center say they notified the guests at The Davidson Center and ushered everyone out of the building in a safe and orderly manner.

Thursday night a preplanned private event was still held inside the Davidson Center, but Huntsville Police stepped up patrols in the area. Investigators also collected surveillance footage from businesses in the area.
