HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Verizon Wireless will add 400 new full-time jobs in Alabama, 300 of them at the company’s call center in Huntsville.

Governor Robert Bentley made the announcement at 3 p.m. at the State Capitol. He was joined by Verizon leaders, Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle and Madison County Commission Chairman Dale Strong.

“Huntsville is a great area of the state, and we’ve been very successful recruiting jobs to the Huntsville area,” said Gov. Bentley. “It’s a testament to the leadership we have in the Huntsville and Madison County area.”

Most of the other 100 jobs are based in the Huntsville area, including Decatur, Madison, Florence, Guntersville and Cullman.  There are also retail positions open in Birmingham and Dothan.

Verizon representatives said the new positions offer competitive salaries and benefits, including health care coverage that begins on the first day of employment, and participation in the company’s 401 (k) program with a dollar-for-dollar match of up to 6 percent of an employee’s salary contribution.

“The benefits start on day 1, and what we’re really offering Alabamians is the opportunity to grow a career in a world-class company,” said Michelle Robinson, President of Verizon’s Southeast region.

You can apply for these on Verizon.com/jobs – type 350080 in the search field to pull up the Huntsville posting.  Selected candidates will receive an invitation for a scheduled interview at the Career Open House to be held on Thursday, May 8. The event is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will include an opportunity for candidates to learn an overview of available positions, interact with Verizon’s hiring officials and receive a tour of the facility.

“The city of Huntsville has enjoyed a long, thriving partnership with Verizon, and these new jobs will further bolster our economy and bring new people to our wonderful city, which is consistently named as one of the best cities to live and work,” said Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle.

Verizon Wireless opened its call center in Huntsville in 2007. It employs more than 1,600 employees in Alabama and more than 176,000 company-wide. It has been named one of the best companies for working moms by Working Mother for 13 straight years, and Computer World lists Verizon Wireless as one of the “100 Best Places to Work in IT.”

Verizon also actively recruits military veterans.

“Veterans return home every day and have to begin new lives as civilians,” said Beverly Mullins, executive director – Human Resources, Verizon Wireless. “Verizon recruiters are trained to understand the value of a candidate’s military experience. We believe the tangible and intangible skills add value to our company and help a veteran to thrive in a team environment like ours.”
