HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – The first of three public meetings will be held this weekend on the new consent order involving school rezoning in Huntsville. This is your first chance to give input in a public-type discussion with fellow Huntsville citizens and school leaders.
The public forums will take place on these dates:
-Saturday, January 31 at Lee High School, at 10:00 am
-Monday, February 2 at Columbia High School at 6:00 pm
-Tuesday, February 3 at Huntsville High School at 6:00 pm
Huntsville City Schools and the U.S. Department of Justice announced earlier this week they had reached a Proposed Consent Order intended to resolve remaining issues in the long-running school rezoning case. A federal judge hasn’t approved the plan yet, though.
If you can’t attend the meetings, you can also give input on the plan on the website ProposedConsentOrder.com. There are also comment forms in offices all Huntsville City Schools, as well as the school system’s main office at 200 White Street.
The public can comment until February 8, 2015. A court hearing has tentatively been scheduled for March 11. The proposal, if passed, would take effect in the 2015-16 school year.
