Scam Alert: Caller Claiming to be with County Tax Assessor “Not Legitimate”

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – The Madison County Tax Assessor’s Office warns people of a phone scam that is circulating.  Several tax payers over the age of 62 have reported it.

The citizens report receiving a phone call from someone who claims to be with the Tax Assessor’s office. The caller says they want to help bring a packet of information to the person’s home to explain ‘how they can save on property taxes since they are over 62 years of age.’

The caller then asks questions about the person’s savings and checking accounts and retirement information.

The Madison County Tax Assessor’s Office said this phone call is NOT legitimate and has reported it to the Better Business Bureau.

If you receive a call like this, DO NOT give out your personal or banking information. No one from the Tax Assessor’s office calls people at home to request personal information.
