HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – One person has died, and another is recovering from injuries suffered in a wreck Tuesday morning on Bailey Cove Road.

Two trucks collided just south of Cedarwood Circle, across from All Saints Lutheran Church.

Police say Jared Murphy was driving a blue Chevy truck northbound on Bailey Cove.  A white Dodge pickup truck, driven by Zachary Easterling, was headed south on Bailey Cove.

Both men were rushed to Huntsville Hospital.  Easterling, 33, died later in the day from multiple injuries, police said. Murphy, 26, was listed in critical condition after surgery but was upgraded to fair condition on Wednesday.

Police say Easterling crossed over into the northbound lanes and hit Murphy’s truck head-on.  Police say the cause of the wreck is under investigation.

Murphy is a Huntsville police officer and was off duty at the time in his truck.

The area near Bailey Cove & Green Mountain Roads was blocked for more than an hour following the wreck, and traffic also moved slowly on nearby feeder roads, including Todd Mill, as people took their children to school.
