HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Trinity United Methodist Church hosted their annual "Pet Blessing" today. The blessing has been held for centuries around the world.

"When God made the animals he said that was good. He made us and said that was very good. We were suppose to live together," Senior Pastor Mitchell Williams said.

It's celebrated near the birthday of Saint Frances of Assisi. Pastor Williams said Saint Frances would go out and preach to the animals and learn lessons from them.

More than 40 animal lovers showed up to this years "Pet Blessing", but for different reasons.

For the Leitners they were wanting to bless their pit pulls. Both of their animals were abandoned and they adopted by them. They said they were blessed the dogs came into their lives.

Though, Saint Francis may not be alive anymore I'm sure he would agree with a lot of animal lovers.

"They are just as much as part of our family as anybody else can be," Dog Owner Angie Elkins said. The "Pet Blessing" is held once a year in October.
