UPDATE: Pedestrian Killed by Vehicle in New Hope

NEW HOPE, Ala. (WHNT) – New Hope Police are investigating a wreck that claimed the life of a pedestrian.

A New Hope police officer confirmed a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed at an accident that occurred in the area of Ed Spears Rd and Highway 431.

The Coroner’s Office says 62-year-old Shirley McPeters of New Hope was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, McPeters was walking along Highway 431 when she decided to cross the road. That is when an SUV traveling south struck her.

Police had to shut down a portion of the southbound lanes to investigate.

The driver of the SUV was taken to Huntsville Hospital to be checked out. At this time, no charges are expected to be filed against the driver.
