Madison animal control officer saves a whole family, teaches students in the process

MADISON, Ala.- Animal Control Officer Stevens with the Madison Police Department was recently called  to  Mill Creek Elementary School.

First graders at the school  found a possum and her newly born babies in a trash can.

As Stevens rescued the possum family, she took the time to educate two first grade classes about the animals, and explained how she will take care of them and safely release them back into the wild.

The teachers and principal of Mill Creek Elementary described the rescue as an “amazing teachable moment.”
