HAZEL GREEN, Ala. (WHNT) – Jennifer Stocum warns us, “Once I pretty much get my mind on something, it happens.”

Now she’s got her mind set on building a playground for kids in an empty space next to the ball fields at Billy Hunter Park in Hazel Green.

Stocum elaborates, “I want it handicapped accessible. I have several friends that have children with handicapped issues, and I want to make sure it’s open to everybody.”

She got the idea after going to take her daughter and a friend to a playground in Huntsville. It hit her, why not Hazel Green?

She set up a facebook page pushing that goal (which you can find here) and a go-fund-me account to gather the money for her big plans (which you can donate to here).

Stocum set up meetings with parks departments to learn more and a county commissioner to talk about the land.

But she doesn’t want to force the government to build her playground, “The community is going to have to pull together and do it. And hopefully with the help of grants and things like that, we’ll get it done.”

She says she won’t let anything stop her.
