HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Earlier today, our WHNT News 19 family got together in this studio to celebrate Thanksgiving, and we also got to celebrate a friend who has taken off the microphone for the last time.
Robert Reeves announced his retirement last Monday and at 9 p.m. on Friday, he manned the anchor desk for the last time.

“He’s been on the air and he’s been somebody you can look at and feel like you know him. You feel like he lives next door to you and he’s someone who always brought a smile to your face.” says Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle.
Mayor Battle also read a proclamation declaring November 22nd is now Robert Reeves Day in the City of Huntsville.
It will be odd at the station without Robert because the Reeves’ have been a part of the WHNT News 19 family since the very beginning. Robert’s father, Grady Reeves was the first employee hired at WHNT, starting in May of 1963.
“It is my hope, if you see me on the street, at Walmart, a local restaurant or anywhere else, you will come over and shake my hand, share a story or at least wave and speak. After all, it’s not like we’re strangers, we’ve known each other for a long, long time and I can’t thank you enough for allowing me to be your friend.” – Robert Reeves.
Robert will be dearly missed and is remembered fondly by everyone he ever came across. Here is a tribute to Robert from some of the many people he has impacted over his 36-year career at WHNT News 19.
