MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – Matt Massey declared victory shortly after 8 p.m. in the Republican runoff for Madison County Superintendent of Education on Tuesday.

He never looked back, winning the race 74% to Blair’s 26%.  With 97% of precincts reporting, Massey garnered 4,979 votes to Blair’s 1,794.

Blair conceded the race, thanking supporters at a local restaurant.  However, he didn’t call Massey.

Massey has no Democratic opponent in November. He will appear on the ballot, but has essentially won the race unless a write-in candidate makes a surprise appearance.

Massey came close to winning the June 3 primary outright, but didn’t quite snag the 50% plus one vote needed to win.  He is currently a math teacher at Buckhorn High School.

Blair is principal at Sparkman Middle School.
