MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) – Madison Firefighters posted two pictures to the department’s Facebook page today showing one of their employees using a special oxygen mask designed specifically for cats and dogs.

The unit responded to a home on fire on Monday.  They say the smoke was so thick, they had to use thermal imaging to find a cat and a kitten that were still in the home.  They said the cat was fine, but said the kitten was semi-conscious and couldn’t breathe well.

Firefighter and EMT Bobby Phillips used the mask to care for the kitten.  The kitten recovered thanks to the specialized equipment and caring firefighter.

The special mask was donated to the department in 2010 by the Hamner family in memory of their dog, Mo.
