HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--  The Madison County Commission finally approved the transfer of 67 acres of property, including the Whitesburg Yacht Club, to Ditto Landing Marina management.

District Three County Commissioner Eddie Sisk said he thinks a lot of the concern surrounding the transfer is that they were going to close down the harbor, but that's not the case. They're just transferring management.

"We did make some changes in the resolution to make sure that they have free boat launches at both areas, we've got actually two boat launches down there that will be free to the public to use," said Commissioner Sisk.

Sisk said that he thinks under Ditto Landing management, people will see a big difference in the future of the Whitesburg Yacht Club and surrounding area.

"I think it'll be a good transition, I think after the end, once people understand what's going on, it will be a great thing for the community," he said.

Ditto Landing Executive Director Brandi Quick said they are putting together a transition team that will include Whitesburg Yacht Club members in an effort to make the change smoother.

"We're going to work hand in hand with them to make sure that it is a team effort, and that for the good of the public, everything is done with their best interest in mind," she said.

Yacht Club Commodore Theo Galzerano said he still has some concerns about how well Ditto Landing will be able to manage the yacht club property.

"They call us a diamond in the rough, and it's a charm to have a place to launch your small boat, for free, and I sincerely hope they maintain that relationship with the public," he said.

Wednesday was Commissioner Sisk's last meeting as a county commissioner. He said this was one of the projects he wanted to get done before he left, and that he is happy with the decision.
