HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT)-- Madison County Republicans and Democrats are gearing up for the final two-week stretch to election day and that means ramping up their 'get out the vote' campaigns.

Sunday afternoon at the Madison County Democratic Headquarters, dozens of volunteers manned the phones while others assembled yard signs.

"We are very enthusiastic and ready for the next two weeks ahead," Democratic Chair Clete Wetli told WHNT News 19.

The newest Gallup daily tracking numbers show Mitt Romney taking a slight lead over President Obama.

"We know this will be a close election and we are just working overtime to make sure we can get the President re-elected," Wetli added.

Across town at the Madison County Republican Party Headquarters, volunteers are also preparing for the final push to election day.

"We think Mitt [Romney] is peaking at the right time, he is gaining a lot of ground and we are very, very excited for this election," said Madison County Republican Party Chairman John Noel.

The GOP faithful in north Alabama are also eagerly awaiting the visit later this week from Republican Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan.  Ryan will be in Huntsville for a fundraising event.

Both groups will host debate watch parties on Monday night.

The Madison County Republicans will be the local party headquarters, at 806 Governors Drive.  The event starts at 7:15 p.m. and local Republican candidates will speak prior to the debate at 8 p.m.  Free pizza and drinks will be available.

The Madison County Democrats will host an event at Oakwood University's Millet Activity Center (the former skating rink) located on campus.  Directions are available at the security gate upon entering campus.  The event is free and lasts from 7 to 10 p.m.  Refreshments will be served, and local Democratic candidates will also be onhand.
