HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Huntsville City School Board approved the sale of the old Butler High School property on Thursday.

“The Rock Family Worship Center” bought the 34-acre site for $4 million. School attorneys said “The Rock” plans to spend a decent chunk of money on renovations once the church takes ownership of the property.

School leaders said the old high school had been hard to sell and it cost the district roughly $60,000 to maintain it while it was on the market.

Huntsville City Schools first listed the property for sale in late 2015, about six months after students last walked the school’s halls.

“The Rock Family Worship Center” is expected to close the sale in early November.
