MADISON, Ala. (WHNT )- Several leaders of Madison City Schools gathered at Liberty Middle School to celebrate a new addition to their media center Thursday. The area is called "Makerspace" and includes innovative items like a 3D printer, a drone, a green screen, and much more.
Teachers were just as excited as students were when the new area was finally revealed. School leaders have worked on the project for about a year now. At the beginning of the school year, the librarian placed a black curtain over Makerspace so students could not see what it was until it was completely ready.
Sandy Brand is the media specialist at Liberty Middle and she says that students will still come to the library for books. The new additions just add to what the library already offers. She says, "So, really, it is a place where they can come in and explore and learn and create only limited by their imaginations."
"They are no longer just consumers of information but creators of information," Brand says.
