HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The woman struck by lightning in Thursday’s storms remains in the hospital.

Emergency crews responded to the incident around 2:00 Thursday afternoon.

HEMSI emergency officials took Somers to the Huntsville Hospital Trauma Unit.

Neighbors say Somers was standing under a tree when the lightning struck, critically injuring her.

A construction worker told us they saw the lightning strike the house, bounce off and hit the tree, before striking the victim.

“I hope and pray for this lady that they carried away. No, no. Lightning is not a good thing. The amazing thing here was nothing around it was hit. So if there is any lightning in the forecast you don’t want to be outside,” said neighbor Jack McCrary.
