HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Huntsville Utilities reported an outage across a significant portion of Huntsville late Sunday morning.

According to the utility, outages were reported from Highway 72 south to Weatherly Road and Memorial Parkway east to Monte Sano.

HU said crews were on the way but the cause of the outage was unknown.

Around noon, power was restored to part of the area, but two sections of town were still without power:

  • Southeast Huntsville from Bankhead Parkway south to Cecil Ashburn and from Whitesburg Drive east to Monte Sano Mountain.
  • Southeast Huntsville from Governors Drive south to Carl T. Jones.

By 1 p.m., power was restored to the Bankhead Parkway area. However, HU confirmed power was still out from Governors Drive south to Carl T. Jones.

HU said all customers had power restored by 1:45 p.m., blaming the outage on a failed transformer.
