HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Jay Stowe, Huntsville Utilities’ President and CEO, is leaving his role to accept a new position with the Tennessee Valley Authority.

TVA announced this morning that Stowe will lead a newly formed organization focused on distributed energy resources and the energy delivery marketplace. He will join TVA as senior vice president of Distributed Energy Resources in October.

In an announcement to Huntsville Utilities employees this morning, Jay informed employees of the opportunity and said “I am proud of the work that you have done to move Huntsville Utilities forward and I am excited about the future. While this means that I have to end my time working with you in this current role, it does not mean that I am any less committed to the goals we have been working on for the past 11 years.”

Stowe came to Huntsville Utilities in 2005 as Vice President of Operations, transitioning to Chief Operating Officer in 2009, then became the President and CEO in 2014.   One project Stowe was involved in was the effort to bring Google Fiber to Huntsville, which is currently in development.

In this latest move, he will report to TVA Executive Vice President for External Relations Van Wardlaw and will be located in TVA’s Chattanooga office beginning October 3, 2016.

Huntsville Utilities Electric and Gas & Water Boards will meet in the coming days to discuss and implement the path forward upon Mr. Stowe’s departure.
