HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – The Huntsville City School Board accepted the resignation of Montview Elementary School Physical Education teacher Tuesday.

Richard Bragg was removed from the school after a parent says she saw him pick her daughter up by her neck.

The mother of the child notes that the act was meant to be playful, but it also left behind marks and exacerbated a pre-existing condition for the student.

“He’ll be on to pursuing other opportunities in his life,” said Huntsville City Schools Superintendent Casey Wardynski.

Bragg’s resignation comes three months after he was removed from the school. His end date within the school system will be within the next two months.

Internal documents show the teacher was also reprimanded for “inappropriate touching, grabbing and invading students’ personal space” in both February and April of 2014.

The district decided resignation was the next best step.

“Kids always come first,” said Wardynski, “so I can be sure we’re doing what’s best for the kids, the best way to do that is reach an agreement where, in many cases, that employee agrees that the best thing to do is do something else.”
