HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Huntsville Police Department confirmed the arrest of one of their own over the weekend.
31-year-old Taylor Wright Stegall was arrested and charged with driving under the influence Sunday night by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).
ALEA Troopers say the wreck happened near the intersection of Ready Section Road and Scott Road, around seven miles north of Toney. Officials say Stegall’s Ford F-150 struck a 1997 Toyota 4-Runner driven by 41-year-old Broderick D. Fearn, also of Huntsville. Fearn was taken to the hospital for treatment but discharged on Monday.
Authorities say Stegall was off-duty at the time of his arrest.
Stegall was booked into the Madison County Jail around 9:20 Sunday night on a $1,000 bond. He has since been released.
Pending the investigation, Stegall is on administrative duties.
A spokesperson for the Huntsville Police Department says administrative duties mean “the individual will work but only in an administrative capacity.” They explained further, saying, “as with Officer Stegall, he will work and be paid in an administrative capacity but he will not work as a police officer while the investigation is ongoing.”
The spokesperson clarified that administrative duties are not the same as administrative leave.
News 19 reached out to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) to ask if they were aware of any prior contact between Stegall and Fearn. ALEA responded, saying, “we are unable to release any additional details concerning the crash or the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
