HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Police continue to investigate a confirmed shooting at Century BMW on University Drive.

The shooting happened around 10:15 Wednesday night. Police say one person was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

According to police, James Allen and his brother-in-law, Willie Rice got into an argument. Allen told police Rice pulled out a box cutter, at which time Allen tried to hit him with a pistol to defend himself. The pistol “accidentally” went off, shooting Rice in the chest, police say.

HEMSI took Rice to Huntsville Hospital. Police say Allen has been cooperative with investigators.

As the investigation continues, police say they are unsure whether charges will be filed, and Lt. Darryl Lawson says it’s unclear why the men were in the parking lot of the dealership after hours.

Thursday morning, Century BMW general manager George Jones told WHNT News 19 he cannot comment on the incident.

“What I will say is that it was not one of our employees,” said Jones.  A witness told Al.com the victim works as a janitor at the dealership.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
