HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Striving to make workplaces safer – that’s what Huntsville Hospital representatives say they’re doing.
Huntsville Hospital Health System and Kailos Genetics, a HudsonAlpha Resident Company, announced a partnership to offer Assure Sentinel™ testing for COVID-19 to North Alabama companies.
Sentinel testing is described as a routine and affordable screening of a population to identify individuals infected with the virus before they become symptomatic.
The testing is designed to reduce exposure to co-workers and colleagues. According to reports, Sentinel testing has been used in group settings such as colleges.
Brian Pollock, CEO of Kailos Genetics, said, “Our company developed surveillance testing to
help create safe working environments in the Tennessee Valley. Our aim is to suppress the rate
of viral infections while enabling the return to work.”
Huntsville Hospital representatives say the testing is a non-invasive process. The sample is collected by using a mouth wash – the solution is swished and gargled, according to HH.
The hospital system says that ViraWashTM collection can be easily done at the workplace.
Jeff Samz, Chief Operating Officer of HH Health System, said that hospital clinicians had
reviewed the performance of the Kailos test and “are confident it provides a reliable result when
used according to the recommended protocol.”
HH Health System will offer the service through its Corporate Wellness, Occupational Health Group, and the HH Health System Reference Laboratory Network.
Samz added that the HH Health System is “looking forward to working with a local company to
help employers better manage the pandemic and get their people back to work.”
They say this testing is not for those who have symptoms of COVID-19 or have known exposure – those people are encouraged to get tested at the Fever and Flu Clinic on Governors Drive.
According to a Huntsville Hospital press release, Kailos is authorized to provide testing. They requested Emergency Use Authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
