HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - Friends, family and colleagues gathered on Tuesday to honor Huntsville Fire and Rescue Chief Mike Sublett.

Sublett has worked with Huntsville Fire and Rescue for a total of 38 years.  He acted as Chief for the last three.

During the ceremony, Sublett looked back to a time where the entire department only had three breathing apparatus, and commented on how much things had changed since then.

Sublett offered a bit of advice to young and future firefighters:

"I'd let them know what a rewarding job it was, but also emphasize the fact that you`re here, you`re representing the city of Huntsville. You`re representing yourself, you`re representing our department.  And professionalism is what it`s all about. We`re one large family and we work well together.  No one can do this job by themselves."

He said he learned that lesson over and and over again during his time with the department.
