HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Voting has opened for the semi-final round of voting to host the Social Media Tourism Symposium!

Last week, Huntsville beat Indianapolis in the Elite Eight by a total of 4863 votes to 988.  Missoula, Montana has already secured their seat in the final round. Now it's up to Huntsville to face off with Cleveland and secure the last spot in the finals.

“The Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau would like to thank everyone for voting Huntsville,” said Jessica Carlton, Marketing Manager.  “We encourage the community to do it again Thursday, March 28th!”

Carlton told WHNT News 19 that this competition could mean a huge economic boost for the city. "We're a city based on the future," she said. "We always have our eyes on the future and so it's really a perfect fit for Huntsville, it'd be an economic boost for our community and it would be a great way for us to get exposure nationally."

Judy Ryals, President/CEO of the Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau, estimates the Social Media Tourism Symposium would bring close to $180,000 in direct spending to Madison County

Jessica Carlton says she has faith in North Alabama and she knows that the Rocket City will come out on top. "One thing is for sure," she said. "When the Tennessee Valley sets their mind on something, you don't want to get in their way, we are in it to win it."
