HUNTSVILLE, Ala.  -- Huntsville City School's digital one-to-one initiative launched four years ago. With the digital initiative, city schools phased out textbooks. Students in grades three through 12 are issued laptops.

Some concerned parents contacted WHNT News 19 about their children not receiving their laptops since the school year had started. One week in, they wanted to know what was causing the delay. WHNT News 19 took action to get some answers.

With the start of a new school year, there are usually always some kinks to be worked out. This year, it seems the problem is a delay in getting laptops to all students.

For parents concerned about their kids not having their laptop yet, there could be a simple fix, and a simple reason for it happening.

We reached out to Huntsville City Schools media director Keith Ward, who said the delay is attributed to registration. They have different registration numbers than originally expected, so there are still laptops that need to be issued to students. Ward said it's not that they don't have enough, but the laptops the school system has haven't all made it where they need to go.

Before a student gets his or her computer, it needs to be loaded with apps and operating systems specific to the students, so that may take a little time. Ward said schools are working on issuing laptops as registration continues, to get caught up.

Ward said students must re-register every year to be fully enrolled. Once enrollment is complete, the student receives their laptop. In order to do that, you can visit the Huntsville City Schools website and click on the Enroll My Child  link.

We've reached out to Huntsville City Schools for an official statement, and in an effort to get more answers. We will continue to follow this story.
