HUNTSVILLE, Ala.– The new welcome center at the Huntsville Botanical Garden is currently under construction, and Thursday they added a key piece of the building.

The Huntsville Botanical Garden’s welcome center came to fruition through community support, says President Paula Steigerwald.

“First of all, the garden belongs to the community and the community wanted to make this happen,” she said.

Steigerwald called Thursday a big day in terms of construction on the center. “Today we are celebrating the highest point of our new guest welcome center, we’re so excited about it, the topping off with the cupola,” she said.

The new center won’t be just where you get your admission. It will also have three venues for special events that can hold up to 350 people.

“It is gonna open in spring 2017 and  we plan to have it open before spring break,” she said.

Steigerwald said the center will put a great face on a beautiful garden. She hopes it will help attract even more visitors.

“The hands of so many people have created this garden over the years and we needed a little better curb appeal.”

Steigerwald also said that with the new addition, there will also be another 800 plants added. She added that they are constantly working to enhance the existing garden.
