HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — They came out in full force Thursday. Verizon Wireless will add 400 new full-time jobs in Alabama, 300 of them at the company’s call center in Huntsville. Thursday, job seekers lined up to try and nab one of the coveted positions at an open house.

“I got laid off Friday and I want a job, a good job, a secure job where I know I can go everyday and can go home and not be worried about being laid off,” said Tiffany Shoulders. It’s like the old saying, when one door closes, another one opens. That’s what Tiffany Shoulders keeps reminding herself.

“I’ve been down because of it, hopefully this will be something different.”

Hundreds of people shuffled in and out of the call center, waiting in lines, holding their resumes, and hoping for a chance to reap the benefits.

“Some of the great things we offer are benefits that start the first day of your employment,” said Kerry Wendel with Verizon Wireless. “We offer an opportunity to match dollar for dollar in your 401k, so it’s a great opportunity for you to invest in your future as well.”

The open house was packed, but it was worth the wait. At Verizon, some would say the possibilities seem endless.

“That’s the reason why I’m here,” said Lesley Scruggs as she stood in the long line. “I don’t have a job and I have a son I need need to take care of and I need a job.”

Don’t worry, if you didn’t make it to the open house on Thursday, you can apply on Verizon’s website at
