MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – HEMSI confirms a driver lost control of his motorcycle during the ‘Trail of Tears‘ ride Saturday morning en route to Madison.

It happened on Interstate 565 just West of County Line Road.

Huntsville Police say the man, whose name has not been released, was participating in the Trail of Tears ride at the time he attempted to change lanes, hitting the right front of another car next to his bike.

Police say he was thrown into the median during the accident.

HEMSI told WHNT this morning that person was admitted to Huntsville Hospital in serious condition. The patient’s injuries were non life-threatening and he was conscious and talking when leaving the scene.

Some bikers saw the accident as they went on the Trail of Tears ride.

“I was just praying really hard right then,” said Kim Bryant from Albertville, “because somebody’s [probably] hurt bad.”

Police say it may have been bad, but it could have been much worse.
